Why Animals Mate

The Sadness Factory

Line up

Reach, grab

Move, drop

Machines in a row

No fire inside

No boss upstairs

Until the flame came

A spark

Caught in someone’s chest

A flutter of wings

Rise on the breeze

Then a smile broke loose

And the buyers noticed

Sad didn’t seem so

Sad
