I’m Not Italian But I Do Love Passion

“If someone you loved ever said to you, ‘You’re great, I really like you, but I just want to be friends now,’ you can probably relate to this poem. Write about your ambivalent feelings about someone. But first, go online and read ‘Hate Poem’ by Julie Sheehan, which wittily captures that love-hate dynamic.”

-Kim Addonizio, “Ordinary Genius”

My favorite line from the Sheehan poem is, “My breasts relaxing in their holster from morning to night hate you.” I might start referring to bras as breast holsters.

Anyway, on to my (not so great) poem.

We relate on such deep levels

Share secrets about Marvel

Trade movies

I go to you

When I need

Height, strength

A bug squashed

But I won’t go

on a date

to the movies

dinner or a walk

Friendship is

just that
