Start with a Title (Part 1): Poetry Day 7

“Write a long title which, like these, gives a lot of specific information. Then expand on it in your own poem:

‘Tell Me Again How the White Heron Rises Across the Nacreous River at Twilight Towards the Distant Islands,’ Hayden Carruth

‘Hard Rock Returns to Prison from the Hospital for the Criminal Insane,’ Etheridge Knight'”

-Kim Addonizio, “Ordinary Genius”

My Sister Returns Home and I Feel Like the Prodigal Son’s Brother

I went away first

Lived my life high

            until brought low

Returned Broken and on my knees

There was no party

Only anger

                     guilt

                             failure

I ruined everything

Coming home

Life is put on hiatus

when the knob twists in her hand

She brings celebration

                life with expectation

I slink away desires heard

Too Late
